The Finance Lead role at HealthX Africa is critical for ensuring the integrity and efficiency of the company's financial operations, reporting, and compliance. This position involves overseeing core accounting functions, managing accounts receivable and billing, ensuring revenue assurance, maintaining strict statutory compliance, and leading internal and external audit processes. The role also includes supervising junior finance staff and driving improvements in financial systems and processes.
Responsibilities
1. Financial Operations & Reporting
- Oversee core accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledger management, bank reconciliations, and the month-end close process.
- Assist the Senior Finance Manager in preparing monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and comprehensive financial performance reports.
- Compile, reconcile, and validate schedules required for management, board, and statutory reporting.
- Support budget preparation, forecasting, and cash flow projections by providing accurate underlying data and detailed analysis.
- Ensure all accounting records are complete, accurate, and compliant with applicable accounting standards.
2. Accounts Receivable, Billing, Credit Control & Insurance Claims
- Manage the end-to-end Accounts Receivable process, encompassing invoicing, allocations, reconciliations, collections, and debtor aging analysis.
- Oversee the monthly billing process to ensure invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned with contractual terms, insurer tariffs, and approved pricing structures.
- Coordinate and track all insurance claims, including submissions, reconciliations, follow-ups, and the timely resolution of rejections or short payments.
- Assist the Senior Finance Manager in executing credit control policies, including the enforcement of credit terms, escalation of overdue balances, and assisting in decisions regarding credit limits and service continuation.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on AR, collections, aging status, and claims, highlighting key risks, disputes, and recommended actions.
3. Revenue Assurance & Cost Management
- Guarantee that all revenue streams (insurance, corporate, and retail) are fully captured, accurately priced, and correctly recognized.
- Maintain and update price lists and insurer tariffs, ensuring strict alignment with approved agreements.
- Monitor direct and operating costs, perform monthly reconciliations, and proactively identify opportunities for cost control and efficiency improvement.
- Support detailed margin analysis and revenue-to-cost performance monitoring.
4. Tax Compliance & Statutory Obligations
- Prepare and review statutory tax schedules and returns in full compliance with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) requirements.
- Ensure timely filing and payment of all statutory obligations and maintain robust supporting documentation.
- Support responses to KRA audits, queries, and reconciliations, collaborating closely with management and external tax advisors.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and provide counsel on potential financial and compliance impacts.
5. External Audits, Controls & Compliance
- Serve as the primary finance liaison during external audits, responsible for preparing audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Support the management of auditor queries and ensure the timely completion of the audit process.
- Implement and reinforce internal controls, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and approval frameworks to enhance audit readiness and overall compliance.
- Conduct periodic internal reviews to pinpoint control gaps and support necessary corrective actions.
6. Financial Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain the integrity of QuickBooks and related ERP systems, ensuring financial records are accurate, well-structured, and auditable.
- Support automation and continuous process improvements to boost efficiency, accuracy in reporting, and control effectiveness.
7. Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and meticulously review the work produced by the Finance Assistant and the Finance & Admin Assistant.
- Ensure the timely execution of all finance tasks and adherence to strict quality standards.
- Coach and mentor junior staff to strengthen their technical competence, compliance awareness, and overall accountability.
Qualifications
- A BA/BSc/HND qualification is required.
