Old Mutual Kenya is seeking an Analyst for Transaction Monitoring at Faulu MFB. The analyst will monitor transaction velocity, customer behavioural patterns, employee transaction anomalies, digital access events, and risk-destination transactions across all banking channels in real time. The role requires close collaboration with ICT, Risk & Compliance, Finance Operations, and Customer Experience teams to ensure that fraud alerts are investigated promptly and the Mulika platform is continuously tuned to reflect emerging fraud typologies.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Real-time Monitoring: Operate and monitor the Mulika platform on 24/7 shifts, reviewing alerts across mobile banking, USSD, agency banking, cards, and core banking.
Fraud Investigation: Conduct first-line investigations of fraud alerts, document findings, assign risk ratings, and escalate confirmed or suspected fraud events within defined SLAs.
Case Management: Maintain and update fraud case records, ensuring complete documentation of investigation steps, evidence, and outcomes.
System Tuning: Participate in rule parameterization and threshold tuning, recommending adjustments based on alert patterns and false positive rates.
Analytics and Baselines: Build customer and employee transaction behavior baselines using analytics to identify anomalies.
Reporting: Support the development of customized reports and Power BI visualizations for daily, weekly, and ad-hoc monitoring reports.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with technology vendors (e.g., Meliora Technologies) and work with ICT, Risk & Compliance, and CX teams to identify and resolve cross-functional fraud risks.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
Technical Proficiency: Sound understanding of transaction monitoring systems, fraud detection methodologies, and behavioral analytics.
Payment Systems: Working knowledge of mobile money, USSD, cards (PIN/Chip), RTGS, EFT, and core banking systems.
Data Tools: Proficiency in Power BI, SQL, and Advanced Excel; experience with SIEM platforms is an advantage.
Analytical Skills: Ability to interrogate large volumes of data and draw well-evidenced conclusions.
Attention to Detail: Precision in alert review and case documentation is critical to avoid financial and regulatory consequences.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Professional Certifications: CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), ACAMS, or Power BI certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years' experience in banking operations, transaction monitoring, fraud operations, or financial crime compliance.
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Expectation
The incumbent will ensure adherence to Compliance, AML, and Sanctions-related policies, including customer due diligence (CDD) and Know-Your-Customer (KYC) standards, while identifying and monitoring potential breaches.
