The Driver Lead role at DHL Supply Chain is focused on planning, managing, and coordinating all Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers' activities within the country. The primary goal is to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service delivery to both internal and external clients, aligned with the DHL Supply Chain strategy.
Role Outline
To plan, manage and coordinate all HGV drivers’ activity in the country in order to ensure cost effective and quality service is rendered to the client (internal & external) in line with DHL Supply chain strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Ensure both internal and external customers are treated with respect by drivers and always receive the highest possible level of service.
- Ensure the availability of competent drivers to consistently meet customer requirements.
- Lead and manage a team of drivers.
- Appropriately handle customer grievances or queries related to HGV drivers.
- Act as the principal operational liaison between DHL supply chain management and the driver team.
- Build trusted relationships with the control tower, workshop, and operation colleagues to ensure efficient driver duties execution.
- Appraise management daily on general driver activities, challenges, and outcomes.
- Work closely with the driver trainer.
- Observe and enforce all DHL supply chain statutory and industry best practices obligations related to driver management.
- Ensure all delivery paperwork, briefing/debriefing reports, preposition checklists, weekly time sheets, and any other required documentation are checked, appropriately filed, or forwarded to relevant personnel in a timely and organized manner.
- Evaluate driver violation reports and take appropriate measures.
- Ensure the driver management department complies with company and local statutory obligations & legislations, health and safety, quality & BCM.
- Handle exceptions regarding right and night parking fees report.
- Responsibility for driver duty roster design to maximize driver availability while ensuring appropriate rest periods (offs, leave, sick offs, etc.) are observed and cost controls are in place (e.g., managing 6th & 7th day costs, allowances).
- Develop a culture of respect and high performance within the team, closely following the Employee Opinion Survey (EOS) and ensuring action plans are well formulated, followed, and updated on MATT.
- Administer and report on the performance measurement of drivers, including providing data used to run and support the driver incentive scheme.
- Monitor, report, and propose corrective/preventive measures against any event or action that poses an operational or financial risk to DHL supply chain vehicular assets, consignments, and fuel.
- Management of the 6th & 7th day activities.
- Drive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure contract fulfillment and meet DHL’s operational expectations.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics.
- Proven experience in driver leadership.
- Experience in project management, people management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant logistics management tools.
- A deep understanding of supply chain needs, particularly within the Logistics environment.
- Experience with fuel tracking.
- Ability to manage and plan biweekly driver toolbox meetings.
