Job Description
FHI 360 is seeking a qualified Driver to provide driving and messenger services to the STRIDES project in Kenya. The role involves maintaining project vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition, performing minor preventive maintenance and safety checks on a daily basis, and reporting any discrepancies to the supervisor. The incumbent will be based in Nairobi County, offering support to various counties where the project is implemented.
Responsibilities
Drive project staff and visitors to meetings, appointments, and field work with due caution and courtesy.
Assist with picking up and delivering project supplies as delegated.
Maintain project vehicles in good condition, including daily interior/exterior cleaning and checking engine fluids and tires.
Maintain a current personal driving license and advise the Administrative Officer on vehicle license renewals, inspections, and registrations.
Run office errands such as message/equipment delivery, visa applications, and collecting mail from post offices or courier services.
Ensure passengers adhere to traffic rules and regulations (e.g., wearing seat belts).
Report traffic accidents immediately to the insurance company and the supervisor.
Assist with office tasks, such as photocopying and picking up supplies.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Director or Administrative Officer.
Skills and Competencies
Extensive knowledge of Nairobi and surrounding counties, including neighborhoods, airports, and government offices.
Skilled and experienced safe driver with a valid driver’s license and a clean record.
Ability to lift heavy packages and move furniture.
Proficiency in basic vehicle maintenance.
Basic knowledge of First Aid.
Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and maintain time schedules.
Willingness to support STRIDES programs and goals.
Ability to work extra hours as needed and perform duties with minimal supervision.
Qualifications and Experience
Secondary school ‘O’ level graduate or relevant vocational training certification.
Minimum of five years of professional experience operating motor vehicles, specifically four-wheel-drive vehicles like Landcruisers, within a public or private organization.
Must have a good working knowledge of both spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
Must hold a current, valid driving license with no history of responsibility for accidents.
Must possess a current and valid Certificate of Good Conduct (issued within the last year).
Must have undertaken a certified eye test.
Good knowledge of the target counties and their surrounding areas.
Experience driving for a diplomatic mission or NGO is an added advantage.
Experience with medium-to-large sized international organizations is preferred.
