The Deputy Director for Corporate Communication and Public Relations is responsible for managing the Commission's public image, media relations, and stakeholder engagement. This role involves overseeing all media activities, ensuring the development and implementation of customer service standards, and providing strategic communication advice to the leadership.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Media Relations: Facilitating interviews with the media and the general public; overseeing all media activities for the Commission.
- Content Development: Preparing media supplements, documentaries, press releases, and media features; determining the quality of reports and information before publication and dissemination.
- Branding & Publicity: Developing concepts for the design of corporate branding; facilitating the printing of publicity materials and posting relevant advertisements.
- Strategic Management: Ensuring the timely development, implementation, and evaluation of the Commission’s customer service charter to ensure services delivered to customers conform to set standards and timelines.
- Leadership: Management and coordination of the Division, including coaching and mentorship of departmental staff.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Representing the Chief Executive Officer in consultations with a diverse set of stakeholders.
- Risk Management: Mitigating departmental risks for identified areas within the communication scope.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A minimum period of ten (10) years relevant work experience, five (5) years of which should be in a supervisory role.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications studies; or Journalism or Language & Literary Studies; or Public Relations; or Mass Communication; or Social Media Journalism; or Science Communication from a recognized institution.
- Master’s Degree in Communications Studies; or Journalism or Language & Literary Studies; or Public Relations; or Mass Communication; or Social Media, Journalism; or Science Communication from a recognized institution.
- Membership to a relevant professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).
- Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks, or equivalent, from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
- Met the requirement of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
