Role Overview
The Covering Nurse (Acting Matron) is a senior clinical leadership position at Westland Medical Centre. In this role, the individual assumes full Matron-level authority over the hospital operations during off-hours. This position requires a seasoned professional capable of leading nursing teams, making critical clinical decisions, and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care delivery across all departments.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision: Lead and supervise nursing staff across all hospital wards and departments, ensuring proper staffing and performance standards.
Operational Authority: Assume full Matron-level authority over the hospital during off-hours to maintain seamless operations.
Clinical Oversight: Oversee patient safety, conduct ward rounds, and lead clinical decision-making processes.
Emergency Management: Manage clinical emergencies, incidents, and implement escalation protocols as required.
Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for on-call doctors, department heads, and senior management during shifts.
Compliance & Documentation: Ensure strict compliance with hospital policies and oversee accurate handover documentation between shifts.
Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum of 8 years total clinical nursing experience.
At least 3 years in a senior covering, acting matron, or equivalent leadership role.
A valid license from the Nursing Council of Kenya is required.
Possession of a BA, BSc, or HND in Nursing or a related medical field.
