The Clinical Instructor in Nursing & Midwifery Sciences will facilitate experiential learning in the clinical setting by ensuring students are placed and receive learning support in various healthcare facilities. The role reports to the Coordinators of Programs and contributes toward meeting the department's key performance indicators and targets, aligning with the university's mission and vision.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Teaching and Supervision: Provide direct instruction, supervision, and guidance to nursing and midwifery students in both clinical settings and the skills laboratory.
Curriculum Implementation: Support the implementation of the curriculum, ensuring clinical experiences align with learning objectives and student progress is monitored and met.
Placement Coordination: Organize and schedule clinical placements and rotations. Provide students with comprehensive orientation to clinical sites, including schedules.
Partnership Management: Coordinate with relevant officers to initiate Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with healthcare facilities for clinical placements.
Assessments: Conduct formative and summative clinical assessments of students.
Academic Advising: Offer academic advising and mentorship to nursing students, serving as a professional role model.
Skills Lab Maintenance: Conduct stocktaking and ensure all required supplies and equipment are available for practice sessions in the skills laboratory.
Administration: Ensure prompt payments of clinical assessors and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
Licensure: Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) with a valid, active practicing license.
Professional Membership: Active membership in a relevant professional nursing body.
Experience:
At least three (3) years of professional nursing experience at a recognized and busy hospital.
At least one (1) year of teaching experience at a university or college.
Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, high level of integrity, and demonstrated marketing capabilities.
