The Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) is a non-profit umbrella organization supporting 33 community conservancies across northern Kenya. Its mission is to develop resilient community conservancies, which transform lives, secure peace and conserve natural resources.
NRT is seeking a qualified and motivated Climate Smart Agriculture Officer to lead the design and implementation of Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) and Conservation Agriculture (CA) interventions across community conservancies. The role focuses on improving agricultural productivity, strengthening climate resilience, and promoting sustainable land management practices among smallholder farmers — including women and youth — within arid and semi-arid regions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead implementation of Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) and Conservation Agriculture (CA) activities.
Support the adoption of sustainable farming practices, including soil and water conservation and climate-resilient crops.
Develop and manage work plans, budgets, and activity schedules.
Coordinate with partners and stakeholders to ensure effective programme delivery.
Support monitoring, reporting, and data analysis for climate-related activities.
Promote inclusive participation of women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
Establish demonstration farms and farmer learning sites.
Strengthen collaboration with county governments and other partners.
Support proposal development and resource mobilization.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
3–5 years’ experience in climate-smart agriculture, conservation agriculture, or sustainable land management.
Experience working in arid and semi-arid landscapes (ASALs).
Experience working with community-based organizations, farmer groups, or conservancies.
Proven experience in programme implementation and stakeholder coordination.
Key Competencies
Strong knowledge of climate-smart and conservation agriculture practices.
Understanding of soil health, water conservation, and dryland farming systems.
Ability to work with diverse communities and stakeholders.
Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and within teams.
