The Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) is the voice of employers in Kenya and is seeking a qualified Clerk of Works. The role acts as the primary liaison between FKE and construction stakeholders, ensuring that building projects are executed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and technical specification. The role involves rigorous site supervision, defect identification, and maintaining the integrity of the project's timeline and budget.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the day-to-day FKE liaison between contractors, engineers, surveyors, and the entire consulting team at construction sites.
Review contract documents with the contractor on behalf of the Federation.
Inspect construction work to ensure it meets quality standards and health and safety requirements.
Observe the quality and progress of the construction to determine that it is proceeding in accordance with the contracts.
Notify the Federation and the consulting team of any deviations from plans or quality standards.
Compare ongoing construction work against drawings and specifications.
Perform measurements and quality checking of building materials.
Identify defects and suggest appropriate corrective measures.
Monitor progress and assist in the preparation of progress reports for FKE and the consulting team.
Confirm plans and document work, along with measurements and samples.
Ensure building regulations, legal requirements, and ecological standards are strictly adhered to.
Evaluate contractor suggestions and recommendations, discussing them with FKE and the consultants for decision-making.
Attend project meetings as the Federation’s representative and report back in writing.
Confirm all tests required by the contract are completed.
Maintain detailed records of work at the construction site as directed.
Review applications for payment submitted by consultants.
Assist the Federation in the final inspection of work and review completion documentation.
Liaise with consultants to ensure appropriate financial, commercial, and legal risks are documented.
Plan ahead to prevent problems and resolve any emerging issues on-site.
Qualifications and Experience
A Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Surveying, Building Construction, or a related field.
Candidates with a Higher Diploma in the same fields and at least 4 years of experience will also be considered.
At least 3 years of experience in the construction industry.
Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Clerk of Works or site supervisor in a large construction site.
Proven track record of handling construction projects successfully.
