Constitutional and Statutory Requirements for Appointment
Applicants to this position must be qualified to be appointed as a judge of the High Court. The applicant must therefore hold the following qualifications:
Academic & Professional Qualifications: Hold a law degree from a recognized university, or be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, or a professionally qualified magistrate, or possess an equivalent qualification in a common-law jurisdiction.
Experience: Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a distinguished academic, legal practitioner, or possess such experience in another relevant legal field.
Duration: Have held the qualifications specified above for a period amounting, in the aggregate, to ten (10) years; irrespective of whether that experience was gained in Kenya or in another Commonwealth Common-Law jurisdiction.
Alternative Dispute Resolution: Qualification and experience in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) will be an added advantage.
Integrity: Have a high moral character, integrity, and impartiality, meeting all the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.
