Job Description
The GPD Gender Equality team provides strategic leadership and guidance on the UNICEF Gender Equality Action Plan (UGEAP) 2026-29. The team works closely with a network of staff to support UNICEF in delivering commitments in the Strategic Plan 2026-2029, including targeting commitments to adolescent girls in each sectoral area through multisectoral, at-scale programming. The gender team oversees global initiatives including the POWER4Girls umbrella initiative, promoting adolescent girls’ wellbeing, empowerment, and leadership through models focusing on skills, protection, and health. This consultancy focuses on scaling up and sustainable financing of 'best buys' in proven policy and program solutions to advance tangible changes in adolescent girls' lives, specifically measuring changes in leadership, agency, and decision-making.
Responsibilities
Provide deliverable-based support on research and evidence synthesis of UNICEF adolescent girls' programming and research.
Identify knowledge and evidence gaps across priority areas to guide future research priorities.
Collaborate with a core team to support Country Offices (COs) for research, methodology testing, review, and quality oversight.
Provide on-demand technical support to COs rolling out evidence or measurement products related to adolescent girls.
Produce two working briefs on 'what works' for specific adolescent girl topics.
Provide technical support to a new workstream on adolescent boys and advise on U-report poll design.
Offer guidance on other evidence pieces related to gender equality in adolescence.
Requirements
Education: Advanced University degree (Master's) in social sciences (sociology, demography, psychology, political science, social policy, or economics), public health, public policy, international development, or a related sectoral area (Health, WASH, Education, etc.). Academic credentials in gender and/or adolescence are required.
Work Experience: Minimum eight years of relevant professional experience with a demonstrated track record in leading substantive programming and research on gender/adolescent girls and development.
Experience in practice-based research, capacity building, and providing technical support to teams for evidence generation.
Skills: Proficiency in designing research practices, rolling out surveys, and drafting high-quality research outputs for diverse stakeholders.
Languages: Excellent oral and written English skills; proficiency in another UN language (Spanish, French, or Arabic) is desirable.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and analysis.
Previous experience within the UN system or similar international organizations.
Familiarity with emergency or humanitarian contexts.
Experience in proposal writing.
