Summit Recruitment & Search is seeking an experienced Accountant (Education) to be based in Nakuru. This full-time role is essential for managing the financial health of the organization, with a focus on the education sector. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of accounting or finance experience, preferably gained in an NGO, education, or faith-based setting, and possess strong financial and statutory compliance knowledge, including CPA (K) certification. The role requires meticulous attention to detail and adherence to high ethical standards, reflecting an alignment with Christian values.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger entries.
- Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and provide financial insights to management.
- Maintain accurate financial records, supporting documents, and a strong internal control environment.
- Support annual budgeting, monitor program and project expenditures, and prepare financial reports.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements, fund restrictions, and accurate logging and allocation of donations.
- Process payroll, verify accuracy, and ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, NHIF).
- Coordinate internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and reconciliation schedules.
- Maintain an updated fixed asset register and oversee consistent bank and cashbook reconciliations.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA (K) qualification or equivalent.
- 3–5 years’ experience in accounting or finance, preferably in an NGO, education, or faith-based setting.
- Experience in fund accounting, donor reporting, and statutory compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, SAP, or similar) and advanced Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- High ethical standards, confidentiality, and alignment with Christian values.
