This Accounts Assistant role at Africa International University aims to contribute to strategic and responsible financial management by providing professional accounting services to ensure timely, dependable, and accurate financial information for decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Invoicing, receipting, and mailing of student statements.
- Invoicing, receipting, and mailing other customer statements.
- Performing bank reconciliations for all banks and ensuring approvals by the 10th of the month for the previous month.
- Attending to student fees issues and other matters raised by stakeholders.
- Handling student registration and exam clearance, ensuring adherence to laid down policies and procedures.
- Attending to graduation clearance matters, and reconciling and preparing for caution fee and credit balance refunds.
- Updating batch receipts for student scholarships once received.
- Ensuring timely banking of cheques received in the cash office.
- Monitoring cash imprests paid out to ensure compliance with finance policy and recommending remedial actions to the finance manager.
- Monitoring accounts receivable and ensuring that they are settled within the agreed timelines.
- Preparing the necessary journal entries for approval and posting.
- Obtaining and filing all bank statements.
- Timely response to student queries through emails and phone calls.
- Attending to queries by student donors for students who are on scholarships on a timely basis.
- Maintaining a professional and customer-friendly approach in dealing with students and other stakeholders in the course of your work.
- Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor in furtherance of the University objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Hold a degree in Business with Accounting option with at least one year experience in a similar position.
- CPA qualifications at at least the intermediate level.
- Excellent grasp of computer applications, especially Excel.
- Experience working with an accounting system.
