The Open University of Kenya (OUK) aims to address the pressing issue of limited capacity in traditional universities by employing innovative teaching and learning methodologies, including online and distance education. By leveraging technology and flexible learning modes, the university seeks to accommodate a larger number of qualified students.
This role is for a Tutorial Fellow - Finance, who will be instrumental in teaching, research, and community engagement activities within the University, focusing specifically on the Finance discipline.
Duties & Responsibilities
The duties of the Tutorial Fellow include:
- Develop research proposals and publish problem-solving publications.
- Attend conferences to share knowledge and build collaborations.
- Provide consultancy services connecting with industry.
- Supervise research projects and evaluate Undergraduate project defenses.
- Foster collaborations with industry and other universities.
- Manage grants, research teams, and project expenses.
- Conduct practical activities for real-world learning and design experiments.
- Prepare course outlines and recommend relevant teaching materials.
- Provide learner support, curate content, and develop teaching materials aligned with the syllabus.
- Lecture to explain course content and set/administer assessments and exams.
- Moderate and invigilate exams to ensure fairness, mark exams, and grade students.
- Mentor students in their Undergraduate projects and supervise student attachments/internships.
- Present articles at relevant forums and engage in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities like environmental conservation.
- Plan weekly course content delivery and participate in Departmental and School Boards.
- Support student innovations for entrepreneurship and social progress.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
For appointment to this grade, candidates MUST meet the following criteria:
- A Masters and Bachelor’s degree qualifications in the relevant field from an accredited university recognized by the OUK Senate.
- A minimum period of three (3) years relevant work experience in the Grade of Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant or a comparable position.
- Be registered or registerable for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral degree qualification.
- Be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
- In-depth professional/discipline-specific knowledge and experience in a specialized field or broad knowledge in a number of fields.
- Proficiency in ICT.
