One Acre Fund is seeking an exceptional Laboratory Lead with 5+ years of experience to lead the set-up, commissioning, and routine Laboratory operations. This role ensures that Tupande processing is high-quality and food safe. The Laboratory Manager is responsible for ensuring the lab produces accurate results, remains legally compliant, and operates efficiently to support factory production.
Responsibilities
Quality & Compliance
ISO 17025 Lead: Build and maintain the quality systems required to keep the laboratory internationally accredited.
Audit Expert: Act as the primary point of contact for regulators including KENAS, NEMA, and DOSHS. You will be responsible for identifying and fixing system gaps before external inspections.
Accuracy Checks: Compare laboratory results with global benchmarks (Proficiency Testing) to verify data reliability.
Document Master: Maintain and update all manuals and testing methods (SOPs) according to International Standards.
Technical Leadership
Method Expert: Approve all Chemical and Microbiological testing methods and develop new protocols for new products.
Equipment Care: Oversee the setup and maintenance of high-tech laboratory tools.
Final Approval: Serve as the final technical sign-off on all test certificates before products are released from the factory.
Problem Solver: Investigate failed tests to determine if the error occurred in the lab or if there is a substantive issue in production.
Operations & Safety
Expansion & Setup: Lead the technical aspects of building or expanding laboratory facilities (including plumbing, HVAC, etc.).
Budgeting: Manage the operational budget for chemicals and equipment maintenance.
Safety & Waste: Enforce strict safety protocols (PPE, spill management) and ensure hazardous waste is disposed of in accordance with legal requirements.
Success Metrics (KPIs)
Speed: Efficient turnaround time for samples moving from the lab to the factory and final results.
Accuracy: Maintaining a zero-failure rate during external audits.
Efficiency: Keeping the cost-per-test low by minimizing waste.
