Job Description
Mount Kenya University is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced Studio Technologists for two positions within the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication. Reporting to the Head, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, the successful candidates will be responsible for the technical maintenance and operational management of journalism studios and laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Head of Department in the day-to-day activities within the journalism studios and laboratories.
Set up, test, and operate equipment specifically for film and gaming production.
Guide and supervise students during their practical undertakings and sessions.
Provide technical support during outdoor recording and production sessions.
Ensure smooth internet connectivity and networking functionality within the studio and laboratory.
Monitor the quality of productions for student projects.
Record and direct productions during university events.
Explore and implement new ICT tools to maximize the effectiveness of studio activities.
Oversee the repair, servicing, and general maintenance of all studio equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance for all studio hardware and networking accessories.
Maintain a comprehensive studio inventory and ensure general safety within the facility.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements
Option 1: Degree Holder
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Journalism, Mass Media, Film, Animation, or related fields.
Specialization in Film & Virtual Production/Gaming & Extended Reality Development.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience at Grade 9 or at a similar position in a recognized academic institution.
Option 2: Diploma Holder
Diploma in Journalism, Mass Media, Film, Animation, or related fields.
Specialization in Film & Virtual Production/Gaming & Extended Reality Development.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience at a similar position in a recognized academic institution.
