Job Description
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Statistics Consultant to work under the direct guidance of the Programme Management Officer (Statistician) in the Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section of the Office of Science. The consultant will be responsible for mapping and analyzing data sources on climate change and gender at the national level, focusing on various data streams including censuses, statistical surveys, and Big data. This role involves close collaboration with national focal points and government agencies to integrate gender-related variables into environmental economic accounting frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Data Mapping and Analysis: Conduct mapping and analyses of national data sources on climate change and gender, including censuses, surveys, administrative records, geospatial data, and scientific research.
Framework Review: Systematically review environmental economic accounting frameworks to identify relevant variables for climate change and natural disaster statistics.
Integration of Gender Variables: Identify data systems with gender-relevant variables and assess potential for disaggregation by sex, age, household characteristics, and economic activity.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Coordinate with the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), relevant ministries (Environment, Climate, Social Policies), and the Resident Coordinator Office.
Technical Contribution: Provide technical inputs for national workshops and discussions, including preparing background analysis and training materials.
Requirements
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Sociology, Environmental Science, Data Science, Information Science, Gender Studies, or a related field. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of technical experience working with national statistics and data.
Proven experience in environment, climate change, disaster-related, or gender statistics.
Experience working with national statistical offices on data collection or reporting is desirable.
Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across diverse government agencies and NGOs.
