The Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) will play a crucial role in ensuring the active participation and inclusion of Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners in all project activities. The SLI will support effective communication between learners, coaches, and facilitators during basketball life-skills clinics, school assemblies, and other scheduled sessions.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Interpret real-time communication between Deaf learners and coaches during all project activities.
- Provide sign language interpretation during training sessions, meetings, and games.
- Assist learners in understanding instructions and engaging meaningfully in activities.
- Collaborate with coaches and aides to adapt communication strategies to suit learners’ needs.
- Foster inclusive practices and help create an accessible, welcoming learning environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards of interpretation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma or certification in Sign Language Interpretation from a recognized institution.
- At least 2 years of experience working with Deaf or hard-of-hearing children or youth within the KRCS context.
- Knowledge of Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) is mandatory.
- Experience working in educational or youth development settings is an added advantage.
