The role of the Senior Principal Trainer I at Bandari Maritime Academy is a senior position focused on initiating, developing, coordinating, and delivering high-level maritime education and training programs. This role involves setting institutional policies, designing and reviewing curricula, managing training activities, and ensuring effective professional liaison between the academy and the industry.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Initiating, formulating and implementing institutional policies and strategies.
- Designing, developing and delivering capacity building programmes in management and related areas.
- Coordinating development of instructional materials for training.
- Coordinating development and review of curriculum and syllabus.
- Coordinating practical sessions, trade projects and business plan development.
- Participating in sector skills and development.
- Coordinating and reporting on training programmes, seminars, workshops and symposia.
- Initiating and coordinating research and consultancy assignments.
- Conducting capacity building surveys.
- Supervising and mentoring trainers.
- Designing staff development programs in areas of specialization.
- Evaluating and reviewing training programmes.
- Providing necessary liaison between the academy and industry.
- Coordinating the implementation of training programmes according to the set syllabus; and
- Coordinating the setting, administration and marking of examinations.
Person Specifications and Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have the following:
- Experience: Cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, three of which must have been at the grade of Senior Principal Trainer II (MET) OR in a comparable position.
- Education:
- Bachelors’ degree in any of the following fields: Nautical Science, Mechanical, Electrical, or Marine Engineering.
- Masters’ degree in any of the following fields: Nautical Science, Mechanical, Electrical, or Marine Engineering.
- Certifications:
- Qualifications in accordance with STCW 78 of the conventions amended, specifically Certificate of Competence (CoC) 2nd Engineer (III/2) or Chief Mate (II/2).
- Competence Based Assessment from a recognized institution.
- Pedagogical skills training Certificate from a recognized institution.
- Other Requirements:
- Membership to a relevant professional body.
- Proficiency in computer applications skills.
- Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
- A Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks will be an added advantage.
