The Senior Principal Lecturer I, Grade KEWI 3, is a high-level academic position reporting directly to the Senior Deputy Director, Academic Affairs KEWI 2. This role involves comprehensive coordination of academic programs, advanced lecturing in specialized engineering fields, and contributing significantly to research and institutional development within the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI).
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Deputy Director, Academic Affairs KEWI 2, duties and responsibilities at this level entail:
- Coordinating the review of teaching/learning materials and schemes of work.
- Coordinating lecturing in the area of specialization (Water Engineering/Civil Engineering/Irrigation Engineering) in accordance with the syllabus.
- Facilitating supervision of trainees’ projects and practical work.
- Conducting research and publishing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.
- Implementing guidelines for students with special needs.
- Preparing students' progress reports.
- Conducting student academic mentorship programmes.
- Developing and maintaining class registers.
- Contributing to professional conferences and seminars.
- May be assigned to perform the role of subject coordinator.
Job Specifications and Qualifications
For appointment to the grade, an officer must meet the following requirements:
- Experience: Served for a cumulative period of twelve (12) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Principal Lecturer or in a comparable position.
- Education (Undergraduate): Bachelor’s degree in Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized University.
- Education (Postgraduate): Master’s degree in a relevant lecturing field in any of the following disciplines: Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized University.
- Certification (TOT): Certificate in Training of Trainers (TOT) course lasting not less than six (6) months from a recognized Institution.
- Professional Body: Membership to a relevant professional body and in good standing (where applicable).
- Leadership Training: Leadership course certificate lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized Institution.
- Practicing Certificate: A valid practicing certificate (where applicable).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications.
- Performance: Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
In addition to the requirements above, applicants will be required to meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity. The following clearances will be required from successful candidates upon offer of job:
- Certificate of Good Conduct;
- Clearance from the Ethics and Anti – Corruption Commission;
- Certificate of Compliance from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Tax Compliance Clearance; and
- Certificate of Clearance from the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
