Senior Lecturer, Civil Engineering (KEWI Grade 6)

The role of Senior Lecturer, KEWI Grade 6, is a specialized academic position situated within the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) under the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. The successful candidate will report to the Principal Lecturer, KEWI 5, and will be crucial in delivering high-quality academic instruction, conducting research, and supporting curriculum development in the field of Civil Engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

• Developing and implementing curriculum and training manuals.
• Reviewing teaching/learning materials and schemes of work.
• Lecturing in the area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus.
• Setting and marking examinations/assignments.
• Carrying out research work on the area of specialisation.
• Implementing guidelines for students with special needs.
• Preparing students' progress reports.
• Conducting student academic mentorship programmes.
• Developing and maintaining class registers.
• Developing and implementing new methods of instruction.

Person Specifications and Qualifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must meet the following criteria:

• Experience: Served for a cumulative period of six (6) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Lecturer I or in a comparable position.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognised University.
• Certifications/Courses:
  • Certificate in Training of Trainers (TOT) course lasting not less than six (6) months from a recognised Institution.
  • Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognised Institution.
• Professional Standing: Membership to a relevant professional body and in good standing where applicable.
• Skills: Proficiency in computer applications.
• Performance: Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

Leadership and Integrity Requirements

In addition to the requirements above, applicants will be required to meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity. Successful candidates will be required to obtain the following clearances upon offer of job (not at the application stage):

• Certificate of Good Conduct.
• Clearance from the Ethics and Anti – Corruption Commission.
• Certificate of Compliance from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
• Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Tax Compliance Clearance.
• Certificate of Clearance from the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
