The Senior Investment Officer, Lending Operations is responsible for leading and independently managing the full transaction lifecycle, from deal sourcing, structuring & complex modelling, presentation to approval authorities, and driving the legal documentation process to achieve financial close. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and the ability to "run with deals" from origination to disbursement.
Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- Proactively source and originate new, high-quality investment opportunities (projects, companies, etc.) by leveraging existing networks and developing new relationships with project sponsors, banks, and advisory firms to build a robust pipeline.
- Lead and conduct comprehensive due diligence and appraisal of new investment opportunities, ensuring all key risks are identified and appropriately mitigated.
- Determine and negotiate optimal financing structures for clients, including the development of complex, in-depth financial models to interrogate various capital structures and ensure transaction viability.
- Independently manage and take full ownership of the end-to-end credit approval process, including preparing final approval papers and confidently leading presentations to approval committees.
- Lead negotiations on complex term sheets and other project documents with clients and external partners.
- Drive the legal documentation process to achieve financial close, including critically reviewing and negotiating draft facility agreements and related security documents to ensure the Bank's interests are adequately protected.
- Manage all closing mechanics, including coordinating the signing of documents and the fulfillment of CPs, to ensure efficient and timely disbursement.
- Conduct in-depth, strategic research on market developments, new investment products, and macroeconomic/sector trends to inform origination strategies.
- Mentor and support junior team members in financial modelling and deal execution.
- Manage external service providers such as legal advisors, technical advisors, etc.
- Ad-hoc reporting and continual process improvement to increase across the business.
Qualifications and Competencies
- A Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Banking, Finance, or Economics with relevant professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CFA or equivalent as added advantage.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of professional experience and proven track record in an investment bank and/or cross border commercial lending environment.
- Deep, expert knowledge of the regulatory environment in the Bank's operating region as it relates to Project and Infrastructure Finance, with an excellent knowledge of professional and industry standards.
- Expert-level accounting, credit, and financial analysis skills with advanced financial modelling experience is essential.
- A highly results-oriented, self-starting individual with excellent written and communication skills, proven ability to work independently and rapidly produce quality reports in a multicultural setting.
- Proven leadership, organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to build partnerships, deliver results and manage client relationships at a senior level.
- Proficiency in the use of computer programs including MS Office applications.
- Fluency in verbal and written English is a requirement. Knowledge of another official language of TDB Group's member states (French or Portuguese) is desirable.
