Role Overview

The Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration is a senior academic and leadership position (Reference AC/11/16/25 (R&T), 3 Posts). The successful applicant will be responsible for advanced teaching, extensive scholarly research and publication, supervision of postgraduate students (Masters and PhD), securing significant research and development funding, and contributing substantially to community service and institutional development within the University of Nairobi.

Qualifications and Experience

An applicant must meet the following mandatory criteria:

Education and Background:

• Must be a holder of an earned PhD or equivalent in Political Science and Public Administration from a university recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate.
• Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of teaching experience, of which three (3) years must have been served at the Associate Professor Level.

Postgraduate Supervision Record (CUMULATIVE): Must have supervised to completion one of the following combinations of students:

• A minimum of three (3) PhD students and five (5) Masters students, OR
• A minimum of two (2) PhD students and nine (9) Masters students, OR
• A minimum of fifteen (15) Masters students.

Publications Record:

• Must have a minimum of thirty-nine (39) publication points from peer-reviewed journals.
• Since the last promotion, the applicant must demonstrate one of the following publication records:
  • A minimum of six (6) publications in refereed scholarly journals, OR
  • A minimum of four (4) publications in refereed scholarly journals and two (2) scholarly book chapters, OR
  • A minimum of four (4) publications in refereed scholarly journals and two (2) peer-reviewed working, discussion, or occasional papers, or teaching/lecture modules.

Research Funding and Professional Standing:

• Must have attracted research or development funds or educational resources as an Associate Professor or equivalent since the last promotion.
• Must show evidence of community service.
• Must hold Membership to a professional body.
