The National Youth Service (NYS) is a premier agency through which the Government of Kenya executes a comprehensive youth empowerment master plan. We are currently looking to recruit 20 Welders to serve in the position of Privates. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to nation-building while developing technical expertise within a disciplined paramilitary environment. The successful candidates will be offered permanent and pensionable terms of service.
Responsibilities
Perform welding, cutting, and metal fabrication tasks for various NYS projects and maintenance works.
Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to determine welding requirements.
Operate and maintain welding equipment, including arc, MIG, and TIG welders.
Inspect welded components to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
Collaborate with other technical teams on engineering and construction assignments.
Adhere to all paramilitary discipline standards and organizational regulations.
Ensure strict compliance with occupational health and safety protocols.
Qualifications and Requirements
A minimum of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) D+ (plus) or its approved equivalent.
Must have successfully undergone the initial NYS Paramilitary Training.
Must be in possession of a National Trade Test, Craft, or Diploma Certificate in Welding and Fabrication.
Must have a clean record with no criminal history.
For those in the General Duty Cadre, a Senior Service Man/Woman (I and II) certificate is required.
Terms of Service
Salary and Allowances: As per the existing NYS salary scale.
Medical Cover: SHA Scheme for Civil Servants.
Terms: Permanent and Pensionable.
