Tenwek Hospital is seeking a Pediatric Cardiologist to provide comprehensive pediatric cardiology services. The role involves ensuring timely diagnosis, intervention, and follow-up for pediatric patients with cardiovascular conditions in accordance with hospital policy, medical best practices, and Christian values.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Evaluation: Evaluate and treat infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart conditions.
- Diagnostics: Prescribe and interpret diagnostic tests including pediatric echocardiograms (transthoracic and potentially transesophageal) and ECGs to support clinical decision-making.
- Procedures: Perform or guide effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and specialized procedures such as central line insertion, pericardiocentesis, and right heart catheterization.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with teams in cardiothoracic surgery, pediatrics, neonatology, internal medicine, and OB/Gyn for integrated patient care.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate medical records including patient history, test results, and treatment plans.
- Mentorship & Training: Mentor junior doctors, fellows, and interns; participate in BLS and ACLS training programs if certified.
- Research: Participate in pediatric cardiology research initiatives, develop protocols, and contribute to publications or quality improvement.
- Professional Conduct: Exhibit Christ-like character and integrity; comply with the Tenwek Hospital moral code and KMPDC regulations.

- Analytical: Reviewing data to inform treatment options and decision-making.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Master’s Degree in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine.
- Fellowship or sub-specialty training in Pediatric Cardiology from a recognized institution.
- Registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Specialist recognition in Cardiology by KMPDC with a valid practicing license.
- Professional Indemnity Cover.
- Minimum of 7 years of medical experience, with at least 3 years of specialized experience in pediatric cardiology.
Skills and Competencies
- Advanced diagnostic and clinical decision-making in pediatric cardiology.
- Skilled in pediatric echocardiography and cardiac evaluation.
- Excellent communication skills, especially with children and their families.
- Ability to teach, mentor, and supervise junior clinical staff.
- Proficiency in medical record systems and standard software tools.
- Team-oriented with a compassionate and empathetic approach to care.
