Role Overview: Paralegal / Legal Assistant
The Legal Assistant (Paralegal) will work directly with a senior litigation attorney, supporting 15–20 major cases. This role is crucial for managing case files, drafting and formatting legal documents, monitoring critical deadlines, and ensuring strict compliance with firm administrative and procedural guidelines. The candidate will be expected to collaborate effectively with internal teams and actively participate in all initial and ongoing training sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with a senior litigation attorney on significant civil litigation cases.
- Manage and maintain case files efficiently using specialized case management software like Filevine or similar systems.
- Proactively monitor emails for incoming documents and upcoming deadlines.
- Accurately calendar all legal deadlines and set necessary reminders.
- Organize documents strictly according to firm procedures and mandated formats.
- Draft and format various legal documents, including motions and discovery requests.
- Utilize provided legal templates to generate accurate documents quickly.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams and consistently follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Participate fully in initial onboarding and continuous training sessions required by the firm.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: BA/BSc/HND qualification.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in personal injury law or similar legal areas.
- Litigation: Civil litigation experience is highly preferred.
- Firm Background: Experience with US law firms is preferred.
- Administrative Skills: Familiarity with essential legal administrative tasks, including file organization and calendaring.
- Legal Interpretation: Ability to interpret legal documents and accurately anticipate the next required steps in a case timeline.
- Procedural Compliance: Comfortable working in structured environments with defined procedures and protocols.
- Drafting Skills: Proven legal drafting and formatting experience (specifically motions and discovery).
- Tech Proficiency: Familiarity with Gmail and Outlook for communication and scheduling purposes.
- Template Use: Ability to efficiently work with legal templates and examples.
