The Packaging Specialist is a professional role focused on the secure and efficient preparation of materials, equipment, and supplies for storage and transport. Working within the logistics and supply chain framework of Amentum, this specialist ensures that all items are packaged, wrapped, and labeled according to strict Navy and program standards. The role involves physical handling, detailed documentation, and rigorous quality inspections to maintain the integrity of goods throughout the logistics lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Packaging Operations: Perform the packaging, wrapping, labeling, and preparation of various materials and equipment for shipment or storage in compliance with specified standards.
Inspection and Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of items to identify damage, ensure accuracy, and confirm compliance before the packaging process begins.
Material Protection: Select and utilize appropriate packing materials, cushioning techniques, containers, and protective methods to safeguard goods during handling and movement.
Logistical Documentation: Maintain accurate records, including inventory logs and basic shipping or storage documentation, as required by program protocols.
Staging and Movement: Assist in the loading, unloading, and staging of packaged materials for transport.
Equipment Operation: Use basic material-handling tools such as pallet jacks, dollies, and carts to move items within the facility.
Workspace Maintenance: Keep packaging areas, tools, and supplies organized, clean, and ready for use.
Compliance and Safety: Follow all instructions from supervisors to complete tasks safely and efficiently while ensuring all activities meet environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Reporting: Regularly communicate progress, identify issues, and report safety concerns to leadership.
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience: 1-3 years of professional experience in packaging, warehousing, logistics, material handling, or a similar industrial environment.
Education: A High School diploma or its equivalent (e.g., KCSE) is preferred.
Travel and Documentation: Candidates must possess a valid passport (valid for at least one year beyond the hire date) and be willing and able to travel internationally.
Medical and Security: Ability to meet and maintain contract-specific medical requirements and obtain necessary facility credentials or authorizations.
