This role is for a Nursing Officer based at the Aga Khan Medical Centre in Lodwar. The main hiring entity, Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, established in 1952, is part of the Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) and is a 61-bed acute care facility dedicated to providing high quality, cost-effective health care to the population of Western Kenya.
Key Responsibilities
The Nursing Officer will be responsible for:
- Identifying patient’s specific needs and adopting a care plan as necessary to meet those needs.
- Prioritizing nursing care for critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.
- Ensuring a safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies and performing timely safety checks.
- Ensuring documentation of all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussions with the multidisciplinary team, family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive and timely manner.
- Participating in nursing education activities, quality improvement projects, audits, spot, and skill checks.
- Participating in data collection and monitoring of department’s quality indicators.
- Carrying out audits on IPSG (International Patient Safety Goals), infection prevention measures, documentation, and actions on identified gaps.
- Upholding statutory regulations as required by the Nursing Council of Kenya and the laws of Kenya.
- Safeguarding the Hospital’s and patients’ confidential information and property.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Certifications:
- KRCHN (Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse) or BSc. Nursing qualification.
- Valid Nursing practice license.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certified.
- Must be a member of a professional body.
Experience and Skills:
- At least 2 years of work experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, administrative & customer care skills.
