We are seeking a News Editor for 'Focus on Africa' to lead our editorial vision and ensure all content reflects the multifaceted nature of Africa while resonating with our diverse global audience.
Your Key Responsibilities and Impact
Editorial Leadership: Lead the editorial vision of Focus on Africa, ensuring content reflects the multifaceted nature of Africa. Set high editorial standards and provide creative direction across TV, radio, and digital output. Ensure teams meet deadlines while maintaining journalistic standards and responding promptly to breaking news.
Collaboration: Partner with reporters, producers, and correspondents in Africa and beyond to identify and cover compelling stories for local and international audiences.
Production Oversight: Oversee the research process from story conception to final production, ensuring thorough fact-checking and editorial oversight.
Digital Integration: Spearhead the integration of digital media into storytelling to engage younger audiences and expand reach. Analyze audience data to inform editorial decisions and optimize content performance.
Innovation: Foster a culture of creativity and innovation, encouraging the exploration of new formats and technologies to enhance audience interaction.
Mentorship: Mentor and inspire journalists and editors, fostering professional growth and supporting a collaborative work environment that values diverse perspectives.
Operations & Finance: Act as a key link between production and technical operations. Manage the program budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and adhering to financial controls.
Your Skills and Experience
Substantial Experience: Extensive background in journalism and production with a recent track record in leading senior-level content production (TV, radio, and digital), specifically focusing on Pan-African news.
Market Knowledge: Expert knowledge of audience needs, current market trends, and editorial output processes.
Editorial Judgment: Evidence of strong editorial judgment with the ability to identify and develop impactful stories reflecting complex issues and diverse perspectives.
Problem Solving: Experience solving complex editorial and legal challenges.
