Medical Specialist (Paediatric Surgery)

The Medical Specialist (Paediatric Surgery) is tasked with providing highly specialized pediatric surgical care, utilizing safe, evidence-based procedures, and engaging in collaborative multidisciplinary management to ensure optimal health outcomes for pediatric patients at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH). The position reports to the Head of Pediatrics.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conducting thorough clinical evaluations and diagnostic assessments of pediatric patients with surgical needs.
• Performing a wide range of surgical procedures tailored to the unique anatomical and physiological needs of children.
• Providing comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care to ensure optimal recovery and patient safety.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and other specialists, to deliver holistic care.
• Maintaining accurate and timely medical records in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
• Participating in clinical teaching, supervision, and mentorship of junior doctors, interns, and medical students.
• Engaging in continuous professional development and contributing to research and innovation in pediatric surgery.
• Performing any other duty as may be assigned.

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

Applicants must possess the following:

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from an institution recognized by Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
• Master of Medicine (MMed) in Pediatric Surgery or equivalent specialization from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists’ Council.
• Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
• Retention in the KMPDC register.
• Recognition as a Specialist by the KMPDC.
• Valid Practice License as a specialist from the KMPDC.
• Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
