Job Description
Role Overview
In the assigned therapeutic area and geographical territory, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) engages in clinical and scientific exchange with medical and scientific experts, including Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and, where appropriate, non-traditional stakeholders (e.g., policy and decision makers, Patient Advocacy Groups, government, innovative solution providers) consistent with medical objectives. This is a 12-month contract position.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Expertise
Maintain clinical/scientific expertise in disease state management, AstraZeneca products, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape.
Contribute to the development and provide project leadership/management of the therapeutic area Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP).
Act as a subject matter expert/resource for internal and external stakeholders.
Work with internal stakeholders in the development and delivery of appropriate training and mentoring needs within the therapeutic area.
Scientific Exchange
Engage in peer-to-peer level dialogue with key customers and deliver appropriate clinical/scientific content through utilizing the correct channel mix to differentiate AstraZeneca products.
Respond to unsolicited customer inquiries and provide focused and balanced clinical/scientific information.
Provide scientific/clinical support and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
Identify and establish relationships with key customers and other scientific thought leaders for ongoing scientific dialogue.
Organize and facilitate scientific events such as MSL events, Symposiums, Advisory Boards, and 'Meet the Professor' sessions.
Deliver informative lectures at scientific events tailored to healthcare professionals.
Collaborate with Key External Experts (KEEs) on study proposals and publications of interest to AstraZeneca.
Customer Insight
Effectively identify, gather, analyze, and report relevant new knowledge about the external scientific/medical environments to internal stakeholders.
Provide actionable items related to medical/product strategy or clinical development based on customer perspectives.
Partner with stakeholders to identify gaps in the patient experience journey.
Strategic Relationship
Develop peer-level relationships with medical and scientific experts.
Identify pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing study investigators in alignment with Medical Plans.
Support data generation activities including participating in reviews of Investigator-sponsored studies.
Broaden the contact list to include non-traditional KEEs who may support practice change initiatives.
Leverage digital innovation and technology as enablers for scientific exchange.
Adhere to internal processes, Global Field Medical Standards, and external regulations including clinical trials, promotional activity, and pharmacovigilance.
Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical affairs role (MSL role experience).
Must be a Qualified Medical Doctor or have completed an MSc, PhD, or Pharm.D in a scientific discipline.
Strong medical/scientific knowledge in the responsible disease area.
Interest in a long-term career in the pharmaceutical industry.
Understanding of multiple aspects within Medical Affairs and knowledge of technical/regulatory developments.
Experience in relationship, stakeholder, and project management.
Strong leadership skills including coaching and feedback.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Ability to travel and fluency in English.
