The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) is a fully government-owned entity in Kenya's energy sector, tasked with accelerating the development of geothermal resources by developing steam fields and supplying geothermal steam for electricity generation. The role of the Manager - Geothermal Resource Management is critical for the exploration, development, and sustainable management of these geothermal reservoirs, ensuring reliable and quality steam availability to power producers.

The job holder is responsible for exploration, development, and management of geothermal reservoirs to avail steam to power producers sustainably.
Job Specification (Duties and Responsibilities)
The duties and responsibilities will entail:
- Providing leadership in the development and implementation of geothermal development strategies, including the development of departmental work plans and budgets.
- Developing policies and procedures to achieve the company’s strategic objective in the management of reservoirs and steam fields.
- Providing leadership and ensuring efficient and effective management of staff and resources.
- Facilitating planning and implementation of geoscientific surface exploration and heat flow measurements of geothermal fields.
- Coordinating the process of identification and ranking of geothermal prospects.
- Spearheading well siting and targeting processes, and monitoring the drilling process.
- Implementing and managing the steam gathering system and steam supply contracts to ensure quality steam delivery to the power plants.
- Ensuring execution of well-testing processes, reservoir and steam field performance and monitoring programmes, and reinjection strategies for optimal performance.
- Facilitating and approving geothermal resource assessments and modelling.
- In charge of contracts for the construction of steam piping, fluid collection and reinjection systems, power plants, well intervention, and feasibility studies.
- Responsible for the design, fabrication, and maintenance of resource assessment and management equipment to ensure efficiency of reservoir, steam field, and power plant operations and management.
- Ensuring efficient use of steam through accurate metering and audit of the steam supply system.
- Reviewing and recommending research in improvement/standardization of geothermal well testing procedures, modelling, and utilization.
- Effectively managing the capacity building and career development of internal expertise/experts.
- Facilitating scientific/reservoir engineering innovations and consultancy services in liaison with the mandated Department.
Person Specifications (Qualifications and Experience)
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
- A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience, four (4) years of which must be in a Supervision role.
- Master’s degree in Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Geochemistry, Geothermal Technology, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Chemistry, Geochemistry, Physics, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology or an equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks (cumulative).
- Be a member of the Geothermal Association of Kenya (GAK) or any relevant professional body/association.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (on leadership and integrity).
