The Manager, Banking Unit, Branch/Centre Services is responsible for ensuring the provision of efficient, effective, and high-quality banking services at the Meru branch. This role aligns with established procedures and guidelines to achieve the Bank’s mandate and strategic objectives. The manager oversees critical Banking and Financial Markets functions including Accounts Management, Clearing Operations, Transfers, Government Payments, and Risk Management.
Key Responsibilities
Technical and Operational Duties
Oversee the provision of high-quality services to customers and manage branch teller functions.
Provide verification and final approval for account openings, amendments, and closures.
Manage and approve customer mandates and Internet Banking applications.
Authorize Till operations and approve internal cheques or vouchers exceeding cashier limits.
Oversee the processing of outward cheques and manage image return documents (IRDs) from the Clearing House.
Provide high-level approval for funds transfer instructions and reversals within the T24 System.
Ensure timely response to customer queries and manage formal branch correspondence.
Manage the custody, filing, and disposal of transactional records in compliance with the Bank's retention policy.
Conduct daily monitoring of internal suspense accounts and ensure timely bank account reconciliations.
Oversee Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) surveys and act as a liaison for Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC) functions.
Assist customers with DhowCSD system navigation and investments in Government securities.
Strategic and Leadership Responsibilities
Contribute to the Banking Strategic Plan and provide input for yearly budgets and training plans.
Lead and mentor staff, fostering a high-performing culture through coaching and regular performance assessments.
Maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including County Governments and commercial banks.
Ensure total compliance with internal controls, Bank policies, and audit recommendations.
Qualifications and Requirements
Academic: Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Banking, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of six (6) years’ work experience in Banking Operations, Financial Services, or Economics, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role. (Alternatively, 10 years of experience if the degree is in an unrelated field but relevant experience is demonstrated).
Advanced Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
Professional Certification: Qualifications in Banking, Accounting (e.g., CPA/ACCA), Finance, or Risk Management are highly desirable.
