Job Description
The Maa Trust is a non-profit organization working together with community-owned wildlife conservancies in the Maasai Mara, Kenya. Maa Beadwork is seeking a creative and detail-oriented intern for a one-year period (June 2026 - May 2027) to support product design, digital presence, and marketing materials. The intern will assist in developing visual assets including catalogues, lookbooks, and product documentation, as well as supporting the revamp and updating of the Maa Beadwork website.
The role will also support the creation of structured product information, ensuring all beadwork products are well-documented, visually presented, and aligned with market and branding needs.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Product Development: Support product development and design processes, including concept development, documentation, and refinement of collections.
Marketing Materials: Assist in the design and development of catalogues, lookbooks, and marketing materials.
Website Management: Support the revamp and regular updating of the Maa Beadwork website (products, collections, content).
Product Documentation: Create and maintain product cards with images, descriptions, materials, techniques, and pricing.
Photography: Photograph finished products and format images for digital and print use.
Digital Asset Management: Organize and maintain a digital library of product images and assets.
Records Maintenance: Update and maintain artisan records and product labeling systems.
Storytelling: Support branding and visual storytelling across platforms (social media, presentations, etc.).
General Support: Assist in other Maa Beadwork activities as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
Education: BA/BSc/HND degree.
Design Aptitude: Demonstrated aptitude for product development and design (academic background, portfolio, or practical experience).
Technical Skills: Basic to intermediate skills in graphic design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or similar).
IT Literacy: Strong computer literacy (Excel, Word, Google Workspace).
Interest: Interest in digital marketing, design, or e-commerce.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to organize information clearly.
Bonus Skills: Basic photography and image editing skills are an added advantage.
Cultural Interest: Interest in or appreciation of Maasai beadwork and craftsmanship.
Language: Fluency in Maa (spoken) is an added advantage.
Local Priority: Priority will be given to applicants from the local area.
