The overall purpose of this job is to review, interpret, and report on radiological images in order to provide accurate diagnoses for patient examinations in line with established clinical and hospital protocols.
Roles and Responsibilities
Patient Assessment: Evaluate patients’ medical histories to identify potential risks from imaging procedures and recommend alternative techniques where appropriate.
Patient Education: Explain imaging processes to patients and address relevant clinical requirements.
Imaging & Interpretation: Perform and interpret x-ray, ultrasound, mammogram, CT, and MRI examinations, providing technical guidance for diagnosis and treatment.
Technical Guidance: Guide radiology staff in image-guided diagnostic procedures per established protocols.
Diagnosis & Consultation: Interpret diagnostic imaging results to determine accurate diagnoses and discuss findings and diagnoses with referring physicians.
Reporting: Compile comprehensive diagnostic reports on test results.
Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations (e.g., resuscitations, bleeding, infections) in line with medical protocols.
Research & Development: Participate in radiology-related research and departmental protocol development/review.
Additional Duties: Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Education and Experience
Master's Degree: Master’s degree in Radiology from a recognized institution.
Medical Degree: Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
Licensing: Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council and hold a valid practicing license.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of practicing experience in Radiology.
Core Competencies
Ability to review and interpret radiographic images.
Proficiency in imaging skills including x-ray, mammography, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, MRI, and CT scan.
Ability to develop and ensure the implementation of radiology protocols.
Knowledge of radiation safety standards and quality management systems related to radiology.
Availability and reliability when on call.
A strong drive, attention to detail, and openness to learning.
Excellent time management, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Basic counseling and patient care skills.
Effective decision-making, clinical judgment, and communication skills.
