The role serves as a primary technology engagements legal advisor to Equity Group Holdings Plc and its technology subsidiaries. This position reports directly to the Group Head of Legal-Commercial.
Your mandate includes overseeing technology contracts, commercial negotiation (including drafting), and providing regulatory and operational support to subsidiaries on legal issues within a matrix reporting framework. You will also be expected to work closely with other members of the Group Legal Function to provide general legal guidance and advice to the organization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Managing, drafting, negotiating, and reviewing various commercial contracts related to technology services provided both internally and from external vendors.
- Providing legal advisory, support, and opinions to the technology team.
- Reviewing various internal policies and procedures, regulations, and other legal documents.
- Providing legal strategy in response to any claims, disputes and active or threatened litigation.
- Advising the business on any new or proposed laws, regulations, policies, and relevant trends affecting the organisation in the technology space.
- Keeping a record of all legal documents for the company.
- Providing advisory services on any strategic transactions that the organisation may undertake, including mergers and acquisitions.
- Communicating with and managing external parties including vendors, regulators, external counsel, clients, and stakeholders, as and when required.
- Anticipating issues and evaluating risks and opportunities for the organisation in the evolving business environment.
- Preserving and maintaining accurate and systemized legal records.
- Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Laws Degree from any recognised University.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law.
- 8-10 years legal experience, at least five (5) of which should be post qualification in a large technology focused law firm or Technology organisation.
- Qualified as an Advocate in Kenya.
- A Masters degree will be an added advantage.
