Lecturer - Occupational Health & Safety

Role Overview

This position is the entry grade for PhD degree holders into the academic cadre of Lecturer at Mama Ngina University College (MNUC). An officer at this level will work under the direct supervision of a senior officer, contributing significantly to teaching, research, and institutional development in the specialized field of Occupational Health & Safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lecturing in the area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus.
• Coordinating course projects and practical work.
• Preparing teaching/learning materials.
• Setting, invigilating, and marking examinations/assignments.
• Carrying out research work in a relevant field or specialization.
• Preparing student progress reports.
• Developing proposals for research funding.
• Writing journal articles and books.
• Presenting academic papers at conferences/seminars/workshops or symposia.
• Developing and reviewing academic programmes/curricula.
• Supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.
• Undertaking consultancies with local and international organizations within areas of expertise to enhance the image of the University College.
• Establishing collaborative linkages and networks through communication, collaboration, and participation for resource mobilization for the University College.
• Presenting research findings and innovations to international conferences to increase the visibility of the University and influence the international policy environment for the improvement of life.
• Engaging with local and international stakeholders to establish linkages and networks to work together for the betterment of communities in various ways, such as through research and innovations.
• Executing budgets for student field trips for academic exposure and the application of theory.
• Controlling and managing research budgets to ensure accountability of allocated funds.
• Where appropriate, providing leadership in the Department/School.
• Any other relevant duty assigned by the University College.

Person Specifications and Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• An earned PhD or equivalent Doctoral degree in Population Health/Public Health/Public Reproductive Health/Epidemiology & Disease Control/Monitoring & Evaluation/Community Health/Occupational Health & Safety or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
• Hold a Master’s degree in Population Health/Public Health/Public Reproductive Health/Epidemiology & Disease Control/Monitoring & Evaluation/Community Health/Occupational Health & Safety or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
• Bachelor’s degree in Population Health from an accredited and recognized University.
• At least three (3) years teaching experience at University level or in research/industry.
• A minimum of 24 publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers.
• Show evidence of attendance and contribution at conferences, seminars, or workshops.
• Proficiency in computer applications.

• Current registration by relevant professional statutory bodies and membership in a professional association.
