Job Description
Kenyatta University is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Lecturer in Special Needs Education, specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role is fundamental to the university's mission of providing specialized education and conducting impactful research in the field of inclusive education.
Role Purpose
The Lecturer will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction to undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervising research projects, and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in Special Needs Education, particularly regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Responsibilities
Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials in Special Needs Education with a specific focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research projects and theses.
Conduct high-quality research and contribute to the university's research output by publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Develop and review curriculum and course materials to ensure they meet current professional and academic standards.
Participate in departmental activities, including examinations, academic advising, and administrative duties as assigned.
Provide expertise and mentorship to students specializing in ASD interventions and support.
Requirements
Academic Background: A PhD in Special Needs Education, a Master’s Degree in Special Needs Education, and a Bachelor of Education in Special Needs Education, all specialized in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience at a university level or within an institution of higher learning.
Research Track Record: Must have published at least two (2) articles in recognized peer-reviewed journals.
Commitment: Demonstrated competence in teaching and research within the area of specialization.
Terms of Service
A competitive remuneration package including basic salary, house allowance, and medical cover as per the University Scheme will be provided.
Note: While the post is for a Lecturer, university terms generally include renewable contracts or permanent and pensionable terms based on institutional policy.
