Lecturer - Epidemiology & Disease Control

The role of Lecturer - Epidemiology & Disease Control is a full-time academic position at Mama Ngina University College (MNUC). MNUC is a Student-Centered University College focused on producing innovative, scientifically grounded, ethical, and holistic graduates, offering market-driven degree programmes and featuring modern state-of-the-art teaching, learning, research, and recreation facilities. This position serves as the entry grade for PhD degree holders into this academic cadre, working under the direct supervision of a senior officer.

Duties and Responsibilities (Job Specification)

An officer at this level will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Teaching and Mentorship:

• Lecturing in the area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus.
• Coordinating course projects and practical work.
• Preparing teaching/learning materials.
• Setting, invigilating, and marking examinations/assignments.
• Preparing student progress reports.
• Supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.

2. Research and Publication:

• Carrying out research work in a relevant field or specialization.
• Developing proposals for research funding.
• Writing journal articles and books.
• Presenting academic papers at conferences, seminars, workshops, or symposia.
• A minimum of 24 publication points is required, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers.
• Show evidence of attendance and contribution at conferences, seminars or workshops.
• Controlling and managing research budgets to ensure accountability of allocated funds.
• Present research findings and innovations to international conferences in order to increase the visibility of the University and influence the international policy environment for the improvement of life.

3. Program Development and Institutional Support:

• Developing and reviewing academic programmes/curricula.
• Undertake consultancies with local and international organizations within areas of expertise to enhance the image of the University College.
• Establish collaborative linkages and networks through communication, collaboration, and participation for resource mobilization for the University College.
• Engage with local and international stakeholders to establish linkages and networks in order to work together for the betterment of communities in various ways, such as through research and innovations.
• Execute budgets for student field trips for academic exposure and the application of theory.
• Where appropriate provide leadership in the Department/School.
• Any other relevant duty assigned by the University College.

Person Specifications (Qualifications and Requirements)

Candidates must meet the following minimum specifications:

• An earned PhD or equivalent Doctoral degree in Population Health/Public Health/Public Reproductive Health/ Epidemiology & Disease Control/Monitoring & Evaluation/ Community Health/Occupational Health & Safety or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
• Hold a Master’s degree in Population Health/Public Health/Public Reproductive Health/ Epidemiology & Disease Control/ Monitoring & Evaluation/ Community Health/Occupational Health & Safety or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
• Bachelor’s degree in Population Health from an accredited and recognized University.
• At least three (3) years teaching experience at University level or in research/industry.
• A minimum of 24 publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers.
• Show evidence of attendance and contribution at conferences, seminars or workshops.
• Current registration by relevant professional statutory bodies and membership in a professional association will be an added advantage.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
