Lecturer - Community Health

The role of Lecturer in Community Health is the entry-grade for PhD degree holders into this academic cadre at Mama Ngina University College (MNUC). The officer will work under the direct supervision of a senior officer, contributing significantly to teaching, research, and community engagement in areas related to population and public health.

Job Specification

This position will be the entry grade for PhD degree holders into this cadre. An officer at this level will work under direct supervision of a senior officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key tasks:

Teaching and Academic Duties:

• Lecturing in the area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus.
• Coordinating course projects and practical work.
• Preparing teaching/learning materials.
• Setting, invigilating, and marking examinations/assignments.
• Preparing student progress reports.
• Developing and reviewing academic programmes/curricula.
• Supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.

Research and Publications:

• Carrying out research work in a relevant field or specialization.
• Developing proposals for research funding.
• Writing journal articles and books.
• Presenting academic papers at conferences/seminars/workshops or symposia.

Institutional Support and Engagement:

• Undertaking consultancies with local and international organizations within areas of expertise to enhance the image of the University College.
• Establishing collaborative linkages and networks through communication, collaboration, and participation for resource mobilization for the University College.
• Presenting research findings and innovations to international conferences in order to increase the visibility of the University and influence the international policy environment for the improvement of life.
• Engaging with local and international stakeholders to establish linkages and networks in order to work together for the betterment of communities, such as through research and innovations.
• Executing budgets for student field trips for academic exposure and the application of theory.
• Controlling and managing research budgets to ensure accountability of allocated funds.
• Where appropriate, providing leadership in the Department/School.
• Performing any other relevant duty assigned by the University College.

Person Specifications (Minimum Requirements)

Qualifications and Experience:

1. An earned PhD or equivalent Doctoral degree in one of the following fields from an accredited and recognized University: Population Health, Public Health, Public Reproductive Health, Epidemiology & Disease Control, Monitoring & Evaluation, Community Health, or Occupational Health & Safety.
2. A Master’s degree in Population Health/Public Health/Public Reproductive Health/ Epidemiology & Disease Control/ Monitoring & Evaluation/ Community Health/Occupational Health & Safety or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
3. A Bachelor’s degree in Population Health from an accredited and recognized University.
4. At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the University level or in research/industry.
5. A minimum of 24 publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be derived from refereed journal papers.
6. Evidence of attendance and contribution at conferences, seminars, or workshops.

Additional Attributes:

• Current registration by relevant professional statutory bodies and membership in a professional association will be an added advantage.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
