Leather Development Officer (3 Posts)

The County Government of Tharaka Nithi is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Leather Development Officer. This role involves working under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Veterinary Services to promote, regulate, and improve the leather sector within the County. The primary objective is to enhance the production and quality of hides and skins and facilitate value addition initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer will work under the guidance and supervision of the Director Veterinary Services and their duties will include:

• Developing and demonstrating proper methods of handling and preserving hides and skins for traders and farmers.
• Advising tanners and traders on the correct methods for waste disposal from leather premises.
• Participating in the siting and design of suitable premises and stores for hides and skins.
• Assisting in the inspection of premises, tanneries, and factories.
• Collecting and analyzing leather sector data.
• Assisting in implementing programs for the promotion of value-added leather products.
• Assisting in the coordination of hides and skins activities.
• Participating in field days and workshops to advise livestock farmers on best practices for producing quality hides and skins.

Requirements for Appointment

• Be a Kenyan Citizen.
• Diploma in a relevant field such as Leather Technology, Footwear Technology, Leather Goods Design and Development, or Animal Health/Environmental Resource Management with additional certification in Hides and Skins Improvement or Leather Technology from a recognized institution.
• A Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution is also required.
• Demonstrate an understanding of county and national goals and development objectives.
• Certificate of membership to a relevant professional body.
• Demonstrate an understanding of national goals and development objectives.

Integrity Clearance

Successful applicants are expected to get clearance from the following bodies:

• Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
• Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
• Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
• Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
• Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI)
• For those with higher education certificates (degrees) from outside Kenya, a letter of recognition of qualifications from the Commission of University Education.
