Role Overview
The Lead Design Technology Teacher is responsible for the leadership and delivery of the Design Technology curriculum within the Senior School. This includes departmental planning, curriculum development, and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across various examination courses including IGCSE and A Level/IB.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Departmental Management: Produce and annually update a departmental development plan, schemes of work, and curriculum documents.
- Curriculum Delivery: Take responsibility for the demands of public examination courses. Maintain communication with Prep School Curriculum Advisors regarding transitions from Year 6 to Year 7.
- Teaching & Assessment: Plan and prepare courses and lessons; teach assigned students, including setting and marking work and assessments in line with school policy. Assess, record, and report on progress.
- Communication: Communicate with parents and consult with Class Teachers, Form Tutors, and Senior Leadership as appropriate.
- Resource & Safety Management: Oversee the purchase and maintenance of suitable equipment for the Design Technology Department. Ensure students are fully trained on the safe use of all relevant equipment and maintain Health and Safety standards.
- School Contribution: Participate in co-curricular activities, events (assemblies, plays, concerts, sports days), and school trips. Act as a Form Tutor and teach aspects of the school’s PSHE programme.
- Professionalism: Attend parents' meetings, assemblies, and INSET sessions. Contribute to the maintenance of classroom displays and electronic resources.
Person Specification: Qualifications, Background and Experience
- Academic Background: A good honours degree and a teacher training qualification for the 11 to 18 age range.
- Experience: A minimum of two years teaching experience (ideally five or more years).
- Subject Expertise: Proven ability to teach Design Technology up to IGCSE and A Level or IB.
- Licensing: Valid Teacher Services Commission (TSC) Certificate (for applicants in Kenya) or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) / general education degree (for overseas applicants).
- Teaching Skills: Skilled classroom practitioner with deep subject knowledge and awareness of teaching methodologies.
