Laboratory Technologist (7 Posts)

This temporary Laboratory Technologist role (7 positions available) is vital for supporting the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute's (KMFRI) research activities, which focus on aquatic systems covering both marine and freshwater environments. The role involves carrying out essential laboratory functions, including sample management, analytical testing, and equipment maintenance.

Job Specification / Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail:

• Collecting, preparing, managing, and safely disposing of samples and specimens.
• Carrying out analytical work.
• Cleaning laboratory equipment after use.
• Maintaining and preserving specimens and cultures.
• Recording experimental data.
• Maintaining laboratory equipment.
• Keeping and maintaining laboratory records.
• Carrying out demonstrations of laboratory functions to clients / visitors.

Person Specification / Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Applied Biology; Science Laboratory Technology, Analytical Chemistry; Food Science Technology Environmental science; Natural Resource Management Electrical engineering, electronics engineering, Instrumentation and controls engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• KCSE C- (Minus) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
