Job Description
Located in an African savannah ecosystem, Mpala catalyzes and disseminates interdisciplinary and impactful research on the most pressing issues of our time, particularly those related to the environment, sustainability, and human development.
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for supporting research efforts through technical expertise, efficient laboratory management, and ensuring the integrity of scientific processes. The successful candidate will work closely with researchers and scientists to facilitate high-quality data collection and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Collect, label, and prepare samples for analysis according to standard operating procedures.
Perform routine laboratory tests and experiments as directed.
Record, analyze, and accurately report test results.
Maintain laboratory equipment through regular cleaning, calibration, and minor troubleshooting.
Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals, reagents, and samples.
Prepare reagents and solutions required for laboratory procedures.
Maintain laboratory records, logs, and inventories.
Follow all laboratory safety, health, and waste disposal procedures.
Assist scientists, researchers, or clinicians during specialized tests and experiments.
Report any equipment malfunction, contamination, or safety risks to the supervisor.
Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities.
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the laboratory at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma or Degree in Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field.
Valid professional registration (where applicable).
Prior experience in a busy research lab environment.
Experience in molecular techniques, microscopy, and parasitology would be an advantage.
At least 2 years’ experience in a laboratory setting is an added advantage.
