The Laboratory Technician role (1 Post) at Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) supports research activities in aquatic systems, covering both marine and freshwater environments. The primary focus of this position is maintaining laboratory functionality, managing samples, and performing basic analytical tasks.
Job Specifications: Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this grade include:
- Cleaning and sterilizing laboratory glassware, surfaces, equipment, raceways, and ponds.
- Storing laboratory apparatus and equipment.
- Receiving and recording samples from the aquatic environment for analysis.
- Supporting the collection, processing, and preservation of test samples.
- Participating in arranging laboratory reagents in cupboards.
- Carrying out elementary analytical work.
- Disposing of general laboratory waste.
- Maintenance of laboratory reports and records.
- Assisting in demonstrations of laboratory functions to clients and visitors.
- Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, an officer must possess the following qualifications and skills:
Qualifications and Education
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
- A certificate in any of the following fields from a recognized institution: Laboratory Science, Laboratory Technology, Food Technology, or Environmental Studies.
- OR Occupational/Proficiency Test Certificate Grade III/II/I in Civil Engineering for Geological Laboratories from a recognized institution.
- Certificate in Computer applications skills from a recognized institution.
