The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the world's environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the environment. The Knowledge Management Expert will support UNEP's mandate to coordinate environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to international attention.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Coordination: Assist in coordinating the development of environmental policy consensus.
Environmental Review: Keep the global environment under review and highlight emerging issues for action by governments and the international community.
Analysis & Synthesis: Analyze and synthesize complex topics regarding forest loss, ecosystem degradation, and the services they provide.
Strategic Communication: Address the mispricing of natural forest assets and promote a paradigm shift in land management and agricultural commodity production.
Knowledge Management: Lead knowledge management and communications initiatives related to agriculture, forestry, land use finance, or sustainable finance.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Economics, Finance, Environmental Studies, Business, or Development Studies. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's) combined with two additional years of qualifying experience (7 years total) may be accepted.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in knowledge management and/or communications is required. This experience should ideally relate to agriculture, forestry, land use finance, or sustainable finance.
Technical Skills: Proven capacity for the analysis and synthesis of complex topics for diverse outputs and audiences.
Language Skills: Excellent writing and presentation skills in English are mandatory.
Desirable Attributes: Familiarity with impact investing and nature-based solutions. Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
