Inkomoko Kenya is seeking an Investment Officer based in Lodwar to manage the entire investment lifecycle for our clients. This role acts as a trusted partner to entrepreneurs, facilitating access to finance for micro-businesses and SMEs while maintaining a healthy and thriving investment portfolio. The officer is responsible for due diligence, investment preparation, portfolio management, and maintaining the investment management system.
Key Responsibilities
Due Diligence and Investment Preparation (60%)
Respond to inquiries from prospective borrowers and support them in applying for investment products.
Introduce investment products to entrepreneurs, explaining repayment requirements and the implications of debt financing.
Conduct investment appraisals, collect detailed personal and business information, and open new investment accounts.
Prepare and execute investment contracts and arrange for disbursements.
Conduct thorough due diligence on prospective borrowers, including site visits and document preparation.
Coordinate with Business Development Advisors and assist in preparing credit reports for the Investment Committee.
Manage Kiva platform requirements, including photography and gathering entrepreneur stories.
Portfolio Management (20%)
Maintain strong positive relationships with borrowers through daily communication and site visits.
Work with the Business Development Services team to ensure borrower success.
Keep delinquency and default rates below set targets.
Track borrower information and communicate client status to stakeholders.
Participate in weekly Portfolio Review Meetings.
Manage tracking systems for payments and contact information.
Collaborate with the Finance team for invoicing and monthly transaction reconciliations.
Liaise with government and legal authorities regarding non-payments when necessary.
Investment Management System (20%)
Update disbursements and repayments in the Investment Management System (powered by Mifos).
Maintain proficiency with investment software and work with providers to streamline processes.
Manage user security access and ensure proper segregation of duties.
Advise management on automating lending processes.
Generate reports and ensure accurate balancing in the Core Banking System.
Candidate Qualifications
University degree in Finance or a related field.
4+ years of work experience in a relevant or applicable field.
Fluency in English and Swahili (knowledge of local languages is a plus).
Experience in Islamic lending and practices is an added advantage.
Strong financial and accounting skills with familiarity with Kenyan business financial policies.
Preferred experience in investment management, microfinance, capital leases, or SME financing.
Prior experience with debt collection and lending environments.
Proficiency in Investment Management System software.
Ability to handle difficult clients and deliver assertive messages regarding debt repayment.
Familiarity with the civil court system and litigation is preferred.
Must be legally authorized to work in Kenya.
