The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is seeking an intern for the Environment and Energy department at the Eastern and Southern African (ESAF) Regional Office in Nairobi. This role involves assisting with sustainable aviation initiatives, carbon reduction programs, and cleaner energy solutions in Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF): Support regional SAF activities under the ACT-SAF Programme, including policy development, feasibility assessments, business implementation studies, and awareness-raising initiatives.
State Action Plans (SAPs): Assist with activities related to the development and/or updating of SAPs on CO₂ emissions reduction from international aviation.
CORSIA: Support the implementation of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), including its Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system.
Cleaner Aviation Energy Solutions: Contribute to work on emerging cleaner aviation energy solutions (hydrogen, electric, hybrid aircraft concepts) and airport decarbonisation.
Research & Dissemination: Support regional environmental research and the dissemination of best practices and partnerships relevant to sustainable aviation in Africa.
Event & Project Support: Assist in organizing workshops and meetings, preparing technical documents, and coordinating with States, industry stakeholders, and regional partners.
Aviation Environmental Impact Outreach: Support the preparation of ICAO inputs, documentation, and communication materials to enhance recognition of ICAO's leadership.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Candidates must have completed or be currently enrolled in a university degree program (Bachelor's or higher) in aviation, environmental science, climate or atmospheric sciences, renewable/cleaner energy, or a closely related technical discipline.
Experience: No prior work experience is required.
Languages: Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is essential. Working knowledge of French is desirable.
Conditions of Internship
Interns receive a stipend, but travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be covered by the intern.
The internship is full-time (five days a week) for a duration of six (6) months.
Interns are not eligible for other employment within ICAO during the internship.
