Job Description
Role Overview
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the UN agency for human settlements, mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The Urban Economy Branch of UN-Habitat has the mandate to promote local capabilities of local governments. Under the supervision of the Inter-Regional Advisor of the Regional Programme Division (RPD), the intern will provide project support for the Shanghai Award and Shanghai Manual.
Responsibilities
Assist in drafting, editing, and preparing publicity materials related to the Shanghai Award and Shanghai Manual, such as news stories, newsletters, emails, social media content, and outreach materials.
Support regular updates and maintenance of content on the Shanghai Award website and relevant internet platforms.
Assist in technical documents development and information organization related to the Shanghai Award application and review process.
Conduct research, support case collection, and drafting for the Shanghai Manual.
Assist in database development and analysis for the Shanghai Award and Shanghai Manual.
Support planning and organizing meetings, workshops, seminars, and other events and processes related to the Shanghai Award and Shanghai Manual.
Provide project management and administrative support as needed.
Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Academic Status: At the time of application, applicants must meet one of the following: be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level); or have graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or equivalent.
Fields of Study: Preferred areas include Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Urban/Public Policy, or any other related field.
Technical Proficiency: Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Commitment: Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Soft Skills: Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions.
Experience (Desirable): Experience in organizing meetings and events, or creating content for the public (social media, newsletters, etc.), is considered an asset.
