Role Overview
This internship is located within the Political Affairs Unit (PAU) of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes region (OSESG-GL), based in Nairobi. Working under the overall supervision of a Political Affairs Officer, the intern will provide essential support in research, documentation, and coordination to advance the mission's objectives in the region.
Responsibilities
Documentation: Prepare and review documents, including correspondence, talking points, and background notes for the Political Affairs Unit.
Research: Conduct comprehensive research on political, social, and economic developments in the Great Lakes region using public sources and internal data.
Meeting Support: Attend meetings, conferences, and seminars; prepare detailed summary notes and reports.
Logistical Coordination: Provide logistical and administrative assistance in organizing workshops, high-level meetings, and seminars.
General Support: Perform other related duties as required by the supervising officer.
Qualifications and Requirements
Educational Background: Candidates must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (Master's degree or equivalent, or higher) in International Relations, Political Sciences, Economics, Development, Public Administration, or other related fields.
Computer Literacy: Proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., MS Office suite).
UN Commitment: A demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
Diversity and Inclusion: Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and a willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
